In response to increased raids, detentions, and deportations by the Trump administration targeting undocumented migrants, the Mexican government launched a support initiative called “Mexico Embraces You.” The program offers assistance to nationals wishing to return to Mexico.
Sheinbaum revealed that approximately 45,000 returnees have received various forms of support through the program, although specific details were not provided.
The Mexican Foreign Ministry estimates that about 12 million Mexican nationals live abroad, the vast majority residing in the United States.
Highlighting concerns over the treatment of Mexican detainees in US immigration facilities, President Sheinbaum called on Washington to repatriate Mexicans at risk of suffering abusive or degrading conditions in detention centers, urging respect for human rights.
The voluntary return program reflects Mexico’s commitment to providing support and dignity to its citizens amid challenging migration dynamics under the current US administration.
