U.S. President Donald Trump has directed Attorney General Pam Bondi to release “whatever she thinks is credible” regarding deceased financier Jeffrey Epstein, amid mounting pressure from within his political base and Republican lawmakers.

Trump gave the directive during a press briefing on Tuesday, as questions continue to swirl about the extent of Epstein’s connections to powerful individuals and ongoing skepticism about the official narrative surrounding his death.

“She’s handled it very well, and it’s going to be up to her,” Trump said, referring to Bondi. “Whatever she thinks is credible, she should release.”

The statement comes as Bondi faces backlash for comments suggesting there was no “client list” linked to Epstein, contradicting earlier demands by Trump allies for full disclosure. In February, she had told Fox News that materials related to Epstein were “sitting on [her] desk,” but her office later clarified she was referring to general case files, not a definitive list.

When asked Tuesday if Bondi had confirmed whether his name appeared in Epstein’s records, Trump responded, “No, no.”

Trump previously vowed during his 2024 campaign to declassify Epstein-related files. However, this week he appeared to downplay the issue, describing the case as “sordid but boring” and claiming, “Only really bad people, including the fake news, want to keep something like this going.”

Bondi refused to answer any questions about Epstein at a separate press event on Tuesday, telling reporters: “Nothing about Epstein. I’m not going to talk about Epstein.” She referenced a Department of Justice (DoJ) memo released last week, stating, “It speaks for itself.”

The memo, issued jointly by the DoJ and FBI, concluded there was “no incriminating list” and “no credible evidence” of Epstein blackmailing public figures. It confirmed Epstein’s 2019 death in a New York jail as a suicide, consistent with previous official findings. Investigators said they reviewed over 300 gigabytes of data and found no basis to pursue further inquiries into uncharged individuals.

Nonetheless, skepticism remains high among Trump supporters, with many continuing to believe that Epstein may have been murdered to protect elite figures allegedly linked to his crimes.

Within the Republican Party, demands for transparency persist. House Speaker Mike Johnson told commentator Benny Johnson that Bondi “needs to come forward and explain it to everybody,” adding, “We should put everything out there and let the people decide.”

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene echoed this sentiment, saying, “I fully support transparency on this issue.” While praising Bondi’s work, she emphasized that elected officials must “keep their promises to voters.”

Representative Lauren Boebert went further, calling for a special counsel investigation if additional files remain sealed. Senator John Kennedy said, “It’s perfectly understandable that the American people would like to know who [Epstein] trafficked those women to and why they weren’t prosecuted.”

However, others, including Senator John Thune and Congressman Jim Jordan, defended Trump’s decision to leave the matter to Bondi’s discretion.

House Democrats attempted to force a vote this week to mandate release of Epstein-related files, but the effort failed, with Republicans pointing out that the Biden administration has also declined to make such files public.

Though Trump has suggested the case should be put to rest, large segments of the MAGA movement remain suspicious, believing that powerful interests — including intelligence agencies — are suppressing key information.

The controversy is likely to continue as pressure mounts for full transparency surrounding one of the most explosive and mysterious scandals in recent American political history.
