The Chief Judge of Taraba State, Hon. Justice Joel Agya, has officially announced the commencement of the 2025 annual vacation for the state’s High Courts. The vacation is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 4, and will run through Sunday, October 5, 2025.

This development was contained in a public notice titled “Taraba State Legal Notice No. 3 of the 2025 Annual Vacation of the High Court of Justice,” personally signed by Justice Agya and made available to the press in Jalingo on Tuesday.

Citing provisions of Order 8 of the Taraba State High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2011, Justice Agya clarified that the courts are statutorily entitled to an annual vacation period not exceeding six weeks, to be fixed and formally declared by the Chief Judge.

“To be clear,” the Chief Judge stated, “this vacation implies that courts across all divisions of the High Court in the state will remain closed during this period, except in matters deemed urgent or where a presiding judge—acting with the consent of all parties involved—elects to hear a case.”

Justice Agya also announced the appointment of Hon. Justice Yahaya Goje as the designated vacation judge. Justice Goje will be responsible for handling urgent matters brought before the High Court during the vacation window.

The Chief Judge urged legal practitioners and litigants to take note of the vacation schedule and plan their court activities accordingly.

This annual recess allows the judiciary in Taraba State to rest, review internal operations, and prepare for the commencement of a new legal term, which is expected to resume on Monday, October 6, 2025.
