The National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) has appointed retired Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Justice Ishaq Usman Bello, as Chairman of the newly established Hospitality, Tourism & Travel Tribunal (HTTT).

The announcement was made during the formal inauguration of the tribunal, held in accordance with Section 40 (1) and (2) of the NIHOTOUR Establishment Act, which empowers the body to regulate, license, and adjudicate on matters relating to the hospitality, tourism, and travel industry in Nigeria.

The HTTT is tasked with resolving disputes, enforcing professional standards, and handling complaints relating to industry misconduct, licensing breaches, and consumer grievances. NIHOTOUR stated that the tribunal is an important step in promoting accountability and professionalism in Nigeria’s tourism sector.

Justice Bello brings decades of legal experience and a reputation for integrity to the role. In his remarks, the Director-General of NIHOTOUR, Aare Abisoye Fagade, said the inauguration of the HTTT “marks a new chapter for the tourism industry in Nigeria,” noting that the tribunal would serve as “an independent forum for fair hearing and redress.”

Other appointees to the tribunal include:

Steve Ayorinde, former Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, who is widely respected for his contributions to cultural policy and media advocacy.

Alhaja Bolaji Mustapha, President of the National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies and Tourism Practitioners (NANTOP), a prominent voice in travel and tourism regulation.

Mr. John Daniel Enemona, representative of the Chartered Institute of Hospitality, Tourism and Management of America (CIHTMA), Abuja, known for his role in professional training and accreditation.

NIHOTOUR affirmed that the HTTT will operate as a credible and responsive body in line with international best practices. The agency believes the tribunal will strengthen confidence in Nigeria’s tourism value chain and create a more structured industry environment.
