A prominent socio-political group, Osun Leaders of Thought (OLT), has issued a strong warning to President Bola Tinubu, citing escalating public resentment in Osun State over his administration’s alleged illegal withholding of local government allocations and failure to recognize duly elected local government officials.

In a statement signed by its Press Officer, Comrade Adekunle Adebayo, the group said the level of anger directed at President Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reached “an all-time high” in towns and villages across the state.

“We are constrained to inform Mr President that Osun people are bitter and angry with him over his handling of the local government question,” the statement read. “In Osun today, the President and the APC are about the most hated entities ever.”

OLT alleged that the President was “listening to wrong people and anti-people advice,” and warned that unless the situation is urgently reversed, the group may no longer support the President or promote his administration in the state.

The group criticized what it described as the President’s “illegal withholding” of local government funds and accused him of contemplating paying allocations to unelected individuals previously sacked by the court.

“The entire strategy has backfired in big ways,” OLT said, adding that “it is becoming a leprous step to even openly identify with the President in public in Osun State.”

They recalled widespread backlash that followed recent rumours about Governor Ademola Adeleke possibly defecting to the APC, stating that the mere speculation was met with “anger, curses, and rebuke.”

The group accused the President of trying to blackmail Governor Adeleke into defecting to the ruling party and warned that such moves would continue to damage his reputation.

“Those who have the ears of Mr President should tell him to cut off those bad advisers and toe the path of popular will of Osun people. Mr President should stop listening to his cousin on Osun matters,” the statement urged.

OLT issued a list of demands, urging President Tinubu to immediately:

  • Obey the Court of Appeal judgment by recognizing the PDP-elected local government chairmen and councillors in Osun;
  • Unconditionally release all withheld local government allocations;
  • Adopt the “Soludo model” in his partnership with Governor Adeleke, referencing the cordial relationship between President Tinubu and Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State.

The group concluded by expressing hope that the President would heed the recommendations to “salvage the worsening image crisis facing his brand and party on the streets of Osun State.”
