Operatives in Anambra State have arrested a 24-year-old final-year student of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Uli Campus, for allegedly orchestrating the kidnapping of his best friend and demanding a N15 million ransom.

The suspect, identified as Muanya Chekwube Victor, a resident of No. 17 David Okoye Avenue, Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area, was apprehended on July 6 at about 12:45 p.m. in Uli, Ihiala Local Government Area.

According to security sources, Victor conspired with others still at large to abduct his close friend, Epebife Daniel, also a student of COOU. The victim was kidnapped on June 23 at approximately 11:50 p.m., blindfolded, and taken to an undisclosed location where the suspects demanded N15 million in ransom from his family.

Following negotiations, Daniel’s parents were said to have transferred N5.3 million into a cryptocurrency wallet provided by the kidnappers before their son was released on June 26.

Upon arrest, Victor allegedly confessed to the crime and is currently assisting police with information to apprehend his fleeing accomplices.

Police authorities confirmed that the case is under active investigation, and further developments will be made public in due course.
