Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday issued a stark warning to residents of Tehran, urging them to evacuate as Israeli forces prepare a new wave of airstrikes in response to what he described as Iranian aggression.

Speaking during a visit to an Israeli airbase, Netanyahu declared that Israel is “on the way to achieving our two goals: the elimination of the nuclear threat and the elimination of the missile threat.” He further stated, “If we control the airspace over Tehran, we will hit these targets – targets of the regime.”

Netanyahu accused Iran of attacking civilians in Israel and delivered a chilling message: “We say to the citizens of Tehran: ‘Get out of the area!’ – and we will take action.”

The warning follows a dramatic escalation in hostilities, with eyewitnesses in Tehran reporting explosions in the western part of the city and reports of airstrikes in the east. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) later issued an urgent evacuation order for District 3, a densely populated 30-square-kilometre area that houses embassies, luxury residences, and commercial centers—home to nearly 300,000 people.

The Israeli military claimed “full aerial operational control” over Tehran and said it was preparing to strike Iranian regime military infrastructure in the area. “Your presence in this area puts your life at risk,” the IDF said in a Farsi-language message on social media.

The unfolding crisis has already resulted in the deaths of over 200 people in Iran and more than 20 in Israel, according to respective government reports. Israeli strikes on Friday targeted key Iranian nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan, killing several scientists. Iran has vowed retaliation.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards issued a counter-warning, urging residents of Tel Aviv to evacuate immediately in anticipation of fresh retaliatory strikes. Iranian state media confirmed the call, signaling a dangerous escalation in tit-for-tat attacks between the two nations.

In a parallel development, Iran’s foreign ministry announced that lawmakers are drafting a bill to withdraw from the 1970 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), citing violations of its rights under the agreement. While Iran has publicly denied pursuing nuclear weapons, officials argue their peaceful nuclear development has not been respected.

Russia has weighed in, with Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stating that Iran is exercising its right to self-defense. He warned that Israel’s actions could have “dangerous and obvious consequences,” while Moscow continues talks with both parties and the United States.

Turkey, Russia, and China have all offered to mediate, with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan speaking with both Vladimir Putin and Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, urging immediate diplomacy.

Reports also indicate that Iran has reached out to both the U.S. and Israel via Arab intermediaries in hopes of de-escalating the conflict and resuming nuclear negotiations.

In the face of mounting casualties and destruction, G7 countries meeting in Canada are drafting a joint statement affirming Israel’s right to self-defense and demanding that Iran never acquire nuclear weapons. However, U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly withheld endorsement of the statement.
