Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has pledged improved welfare and infrastructural support for the state judiciary.

The governor made the commitment while flagging off the construction of the State Judiciary Village, located along Idongesit Nkanga Avenue (Ring Road III) in Uyo, according to a statement shared on Sunday.

Eno described the housing project as a practical step toward enhancing the working and living conditions of judicial officers, who he said play a crucial role in upholding the rule of law and democratic values.

He described the project as a product of his administration’s inclusive governance.

The governor said the seamless and robust relationship between his administration and the judiciary had enabled them to serve the people better.

He said, “For two years, we have had—and have continued to have—robust collaborations with the judiciary in our determined efforts to provide the dividends of democracy in line with our governance blueprint – the ARISE agenda – for our people.

“Even though we respect the time-tested principles of separation of powers, on the issue of growth and shared prosperity of our dear state, the deepening of our peace, unity, and the promotion of inclusive governance, we are all on the same page.”

According to the governor, the judiciary complex is his administration’s special way of ensuring that state judicial officers live in a safe and secure environment to help them execute their prescribed constitutional roles.

Eno announced plans to flag off the legislative quarters and another one for State Executive Council members, saying the gesture was to underscore the priority given to the welfare of all partners in the Akwa Ibom Project.

He warned the people against encroaching on government lands or building on unapproved lands or waterways, as the government would demolish such buildings without compensation.

The Chief Judge of the state, Justice Ekaete Fabian-Obot, appreciated the governor for his passionate vision for the judiciary and the judges, describing Eno as a promise keeper.
