National Identification Number

*Diaspora Nigerians To Pay Up To $60 For Data Modifications

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has officially released a revised fee structure for services related to the National Identification Number (NIN), with significant increases across key data modification processes.

According to the new pricing announced by the Commission, correction of the Date of Birth (DOB) on the NIN database now costs ₦28,574, marking a 75% increase from the previous fee of ₦16,340.

Other data modification services—such as changes to names, addresses, and similar fields—will now attract a fee of ₦2,000 per request, up from the previous ₦1,522, representing a 31% hike.

The Commission explained that the upward review follows “a decade of maintaining the same price structure” and was necessary to align with “current operational costs, inflationary pressures, and industry standards.”

“Following due consultation with all departments and in consideration of current market realities, including inflation at 32.70%, we propose an upward review in the fees and charges for our products and services with at least a 20% markup,” NIMC said in an executive summary accompanying the new price list.

Other Revised Fees Include:

  • Re-issuance of NIN slip: Now ₦600 (up from ₦500)
  • Premium/VIP NIN enrollment: ₦20,000
  • VIP NIN slip re-issuance: ₦3,500

Diaspora Charges Also Affected

Nigerians living abroad will also feel the impact of the new pricing:

For African Countries:

  • New NIN enrollment for adults: $50
  • Enrollment for children: $30
  • NIN slip re-issuance: $6
  • DOB correction: $55
  • Other modifications: $10

Outside Africa:

  • Name correction: $60
  • Other modifications: $10

NIMC noted that the review aligns with global practices and also took into consideration the cost structures of similar services offered by sister agencies such as the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), which manage passport and driver’s license services respectively.

While enrollment and the issuance of a first-time NIN remain free of charge, the Commission clarified that the revised fees apply to optional or post-enrollment services, which require additional administrative resources.

The updated price list is already in effect and applies across all NIMC centres, licensed agents, and accredited diaspora enrollment partners. The Commission has urged citizens to ensure that all necessary documents are provided before initiating any change request, as verification and vetting will be strictly enforced to maintain data integrity.

The announcement has generated mixed reactions, with some Nigerians expressing concern about the rising cost of essential government services amid economic hardship.
