A document exclusively obtained by PREMIUM TIMES has confirmed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is actively investigating businesswoman Aisha Achimugu over alleged money laundering and investment fraud.

This revelation contradicts ongoing media campaigns by Ms. Achimugu’s associates, who have denied any probe by the anti-graft agency.

According to EFCC sources, Ms. Achimugu was invited for questioning on March 5, 2025, but failed to appear. Instead, she reportedly left Nigeria on March 6 or 7 in what investigators believe was a deliberate move to evade interrogation and possible arrest.

A letter of investigation, dated March 4 and signed by Adebayo Adeniyi, the acting zonal director of EFCC’s Port Harcourt office, was sent to her Abuja residence. The letter emphasized the urgency of her presence to clarify issues related to the ongoing investigation.

Following her failure to appear, the EFCC obtained an arrest warrant and is preparing to declare her wanted.

Ms. Achimugu, an associate of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has been at the center of media reports, with her aides pushing a narrative denying the EFCC’s probe. One of her associates, David Abakpa, recently issued a statement confirming her departure from Nigeria but dismissed the investigation as false and politically motivated.

Despite these denials, EFCC officials have maintained that the probe is ongoing and have vowed to take necessary legal actions to bring Ms. Achimugu to justice.
