The National Judicial Council (NJC) has dismissed as false the media reports claiming that the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) and Chairman of the Council, Hon. Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, GCON, has ordered the release of detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and his repatriation to Kenya.

In an official statement signed by Kemi Babalola Ogedengbe, Esq., Deputy Director of Information, the NJC described the reports as a “figment of the writer’s imagination” and clarified that there have been no court proceedings, decisions, or judgments where such directives were issued by the CJN.

The Council further emphasized that Justice Kekere-Ekun never presided over any Supreme Court case involving Kanu, particularly on jurisdictional issues, nor made any pronouncements on his release.

Additionally, the NJC refuted claims that the CJN had written a formal letter to the Kenyan Government or High Commission apologizing for Kanu’s arrest and trial.

The NJC has urged the public to disregard the false reports and cautioned against the spread of misinformation concerning judicial matters.
