A legal advocacy group, Trust Africa Initiative, has criticized the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for his recent comments against the chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli.

Speaking at a press conference in Port Harcourt, the group’s Executive Director, Chetam Thierry-Nwala, challenged Wike to provide concrete evidence to support his allegations against Justice Enebeli. Thierry-Nwala questioned Wike’s motives, pointing out that he had previously praised Enebeli’s service before turning around to accuse him of corruption and a lack of integrity.
“It is unfortunate that Wike, due to political interests, would stoop so low to attack a jurist who has served Rivers State with distinction,” Thierry-Nwala stated. “This is the same Wike who, during Justice Enebeli’s valedictory session, commended him for his contributions to the judiciary.”
The group highlighted Enebeli’s 31-year service in the judiciary, first as a magistrate and later as a High Court judge, and insisted that Wike’s comments were baseless and politically motivated. They urged the public to disregard the minister’s remarks.
Other members of Trust Africa Initiative, including Patrick Ogbuehi and Peter Karagbara, also condemned Wike’s statements, noting that none of Enebeli’s judgments had been overturned by higher courts.
They described Wike as a leader with double standards, stating, “It is troubling that anyone who disagrees with him politically suddenly becomes labeled as corrupt. Such behavior undermines the credibility of governance and justice.”
The group called on Wike to retract his statements, emphasizing that true leadership requires consistency and respect for those who have served the state honorably.
