A Federal High Court in Makurdi has issued an order restraining the Benue State Local Government Election Petition Tribunal from holding its sittings at the NBA House, Abuja, or any other venue outside the state.

The ruling followed a suit filed by the Attorney General of Benue State, the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), and 24 others, challenging the relocation of the tribunal.

Presiding over the case, Justice R.K. Egbe ruled that any plan to move the tribunal outside Benue should be suspended pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

The court order is part of an ongoing dispute between the Benue State Government and the State Chief Judge, Maurice Ikpambwese.

Earlier, Chief Judge Ikpambwese directed the relocation of the tribunal to NBA House, Abuja, citing security concerns at the Makurdi High Court complex following his controversial removal by the Benue State House of Assembly.

However, the State Government later denied any knowledge of the relocation decision, further deepening the crisis surrounding the tribunal’s sittings.
