The Rivers State House of Assembly has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Governor Sim Fubara to present the 2025 budget for consideration.

This directive was given during a plenary session in Port Harcourt on Monday.

Governor Fubara had on January 2nd, signed a ₦1.1 trillion 2025 Budget into law after presenting it to the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led lawmakers.

The session took place under heavy security presence, with multiple squads of policemen and operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) stationed at the Assembly Quarters.

The Speaker of the Rivers Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, had earlier released a notice for Monday’s plenary. While the full agenda of the sitting was unclear at the time of reporting, sources indicate that local government administration in the state may dominate discussions.

This development follows last week’s Supreme Court ruling, which ordered Amaewhule and other lawmakers to resume legislative duties after a prolonged crisis over control of the Assembly. The apex court also nullified last year’s Rivers State local government elections and directed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to withhold funds from the state government due to its alleged disobedience of court orders.
