The Lagos State Police Command has reinstated the security details of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mojisola Meranda, after their earlier withdrawal sparked widespread speculation.

Earlier on Thursday morning, security personnel assigned to the Speaker’s office and residence were suddenly withdrawn, fueling concerns, especially as the security details of impeached Speaker, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, were restored. Obasa later stormed the Assembly complex, declared himself Speaker, and presided over a plenary session attended by a few lawmakers.

Addressing the development at a press briefing on Thursday, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, confirmed that the four security personnel attached to Speaker Meranda had been reinstated.

He clarified that the withdrawal was part of an ongoing audit of police personnel and firearms assigned to Very Important Personalities (VIPs) across the state. He further disclosed that the exercise is not exclusive to Lagos but is being conducted across all state police commands.

The reinstatement of Speaker Meranda’s security detail has helped douse tensions within the Assembly, as political maneuvering continues to unfold in the state’s legislature.
