The Delta State Police Command has paraded two lovers, identified as Princess and Prince, for allegedly staging a fake kidnapping to extort N2 million from the girl’s parents.

According to the State Police Command spokesperson, Bright Edafe, the incident occurred on December 30, 2024, when Princess visited her boyfriend’s house. She reportedly suggested to her boyfriend that he should call her parents and claim she had been kidnapped, demanding N2 million as ransom.

Despite her father pleading to pay N40,000 and later N100,000 due to financial constraints, the suspects insisted on the full N2 million ransom. Frustrated, the girl’s parents reported the case to the police, which led to an investigation and the eventual arrest of the duo.

In a video shared by Edafe on his official X handle, the suspects confessed to the crime. Princess revealed that her boyfriend had no money for her transport fare, which prompted her idea to fake her abduction. She admitted that the plan was for her boyfriend to take N1.5 million from the ransom while she would keep N500,000.

During questioning, the boyfriend, Prince, confirmed the arrangement and claimed he went along with the plan out of love for Princess.

The police spokesperson emphasized the importance of responsible parenting and urged families to remain vigilant. He reassured the public of the command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities in the state.

The suspects are expected to face legal proceedings in due course.
