Ghana has announced that it will grant visa-free entry to all African nationals starting in early 2025. The decision, approved by President Nana Akufo-Addo in December, comes as a fulfillment of a promise made during the Africa Prosperity Dialogues.

President Akufo-Addo emphasized that the initiative is designed to foster “stronger ties across Africa” by removing barriers to travel and encouraging increased interaction among African citizens. The move is expected to have a positive impact on Ghana’s tourism, trade, and travel sectors, which have long been hindered by visa restrictions.

Prior to this decision, Ghana already granted visa-free entry to citizens of 26 African nations and visas on arrival to travelers from 25 others, with only two African countries requiring visas prior to arrival.

By extending visa-free access to all holders of African passports, Ghana joins a select group of African nations, including Rwanda, Seychelles, Gambia, and Benin, that have already implemented similar policies.

The visa-free entry initiative is being hailed as a step towards enhancing regional integration and mobility across the continent. It is expected to encourage more Africans to explore the rich cultural heritage, diverse landscapes, and thriving business opportunities that Ghana has to offer.

The Ghanaian government is optimistic that this policy change will not only boost the country’s economy by attracting more visitors and investors but also contribute to the broader goal of creating a more connected and prosperous Africa.
