The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched an investigation into two contrasting viral videos circulating on social media involving one of its officers and clearing agents at the Car Park C Terminal under the Tincan Island Port Area Command.

In the first video, the officer appears to be subjected to embarrassment and hostility, while the second video shows the same officer being warmly received by the agents.

The NCS, under the leadership of Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, has taken the incidents seriously and tasked the Customs Police Unit with reviewing the videos, gathering statements from the officer involved, and engaging relevant stakeholders associated with the incidents.

In a press statement released by the National Public Relations Office, Chief Superintendent of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada emphasized the NCS’s commitment to a transparent and accountable process, in line with the NCS Act 2023 Section 30. He stated that any individual found to be in contravention of NCS regulations, including clearing agents, officers, or other involved parties, will be held accountable under the law, and appropriate measures will be pursued to serve as a deterrent.

CGC Adeniyi assured the general public, stakeholders, and the business community that appropriate action will be taken in response to the investigation’s findings. He urged all parties operating within the port community to conduct their activities responsibly and in line with the principles of respect and professionalism.

A member of the Association of the Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) confirmed to our correspondent that that the protest against Isa occurred on Wednesday, adding that such a protest are common among the agents.

In a viral video shared on X on Friday, a crowd of animated individuals, some holding placards, chanted the Yoruba word for “thief” as Isa descended a staircase.

Even after she left the area, the protesters continued their chants, repeating “thief, thief, thief” until their voices faded from the recording.

Towards the end of the video, a man acknowledged that the protest was embarrassing for her but stated that she still had to go.

In another clip, the protesters are heard chanting “Dubious” and “Isa, ole (thief)” as they protested.
