A disturbing video has surfaced showing Hon. Alex Ifeanyi Mascot Ikwechegh, a member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency under APGA, physically assaulting a Bolt driver in Abuja.

The incident allegedly occurred when the driver, who had made a delivery to Ikwechegh’s residence, refused to bring the delivered items, reported to be snails, into the house and instead asked the lawmaker to collect them himself.

In the video, Ikwechegh can be seen angrily confronting and hitting the driver while making threatening remarks. “Can you imagine this rat? I can make this man disappear in this Nigeria and nothing will happen,” the lawmaker is heard saying, also claiming that he is a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Ikwechegh’s actions have sparked outrage on social media, with many Nigerians condemning his behavior as an abuse of power and calling for him to face consequences. The assault has also raised concerns about the safety and working conditions of ride-hailing and delivery drivers in the country.

Bolt, a popular ride-hailing platform in Nigeria, has not yet publicly commented on the incident involving one of its drivers.

The House of Representatives and APGA leadership have also not issued any statements regarding the actions of Ikwechegh, who was elected to represent his constituency in Abia State.

Calls are growing for a thorough investigation into the assault and for Ikwechegh to be held accountable if found guilty of misconduct. The incident has reignited debates about the need for stronger protections and support for workers in Nigeria’s expanding gig economy.
