A 30-year-old suspected fake lawyer, Mr. Obinna Orezue, an indigene of Abba in Anambra State alleged to be impersonating a lawyer was dramatically arrested today inside the Otuocha High Court 2 Division by order of the presiding judge.

Our correspondent learnt that the suspect appeared in court to represent the plaintiff in suit no. OT/120/2022. He informed the court that the defendant had not filed a defense or any other documents in the case.

The presiding judge questioned the suspect about the appropriate course of action if the defendant refused to file a process. Although the suspect claimed to know the answer, he was unable to provide the court with the correct information. The judge then asked another lawyer in the courtroom to assist, but the suspect failed to repeat the correct answer provided by the lawyer.

At one point the judge declares “I hereby order his arrest in my court. I want you to arrest him.” Court officers then appear to take the man into custody amid a tense scene in the courtroom.

Further questioning by the judge revealed inconsistencies in the suspect’s educational background. Initially, he claimed to have attended universities in Kano and UNIZIK, graduating in 2015. However, he later stated that he attended the University of Igbariam and was called to the bar in 2019. The suspect also admitted to facing financial challenges.

The judge asked the suspect to provide the name of his project supervisor, his call to bar number, and the names of law lecturers and deans at the universities he claimed to have attended, but the suspect was unable to provide satisfactory answers.

Investigations revealed that the suspect, an indigene of Abba in Anambra State, had not submitted his credentials to his employer, M.T OLISE-EKE, a law firm based in Onitsha, prior to the incident.
