Long queues have resurfaced at filling stations across Lagos State in recent days as scarcity of petroleum products intensifies.

Many outlets have shut down due to lack of petrol and diesel while motorists besiege the few still dispensing, resulting in endless lines spilling onto major roads.

The development signals a return of the supply crisis that plagued the commercial capital during past Yuletide seasons.

President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Abubakar Maigandi blamed the product shortfall on members’ inability to get allocation from depots.

“My members have not been able to lift products for some days now due to supply issues from the ports,” Maigandi explained on Tuesday.

The lines for petrol and diesel have become daily sights in parts of the metropolis like Ikeja, Maryland, Ikorodu, Mile 12, Ogba and Agege as well as satellite towns such as Ajah, Lekki and Victoria Island.

Black market hawking has resumed around stations lacking supply, exacerbating the agony of motorists seeking to refuel at approved pump prices.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited is yet to comment on the worsening supply crisis crippling Africa’s largest city.
