The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has failed to disclose the identities of the board members and real owners of INTELS Nigeria Limited, despite multiple Freedom of Information (FOI) requests by LEADERSHIP newspaper over the past two months.

LEADERSHIP had sought to confirm the ownership structure of INTELS, following claims by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that he divested his shares in the company back in 2019. However, several FOI requests sent to the CAC since December 5 and December 18, 2023 were ultimately stonewalled, with the Commission failing to provide any substantial information.

According to LEADERSHIP, the CAC continued to stall and ask for more time to retrieve files and details on INTELS’ parent company, Orlean Investments Africa Limited. But after weeks of assurances, our FOI requests were blatantly ignored in what seems to be a violation of the FOI Act signed into law in 2011.

LEADERSHIP calls on the CAC to immediately disclose the identities of the board members and current owners of INTELS Nigeria in line with the spirit and letter of the FOI Act which compels public agencies to grant citizen access to information.

The failure to release this key ownership information also raises transparency and accountability concerns over corporate entities operating in Nigeria. LEADERSHIP will continue to pursue this matter vigorously using all legal means until the real owners of INTELS Nigeria are disclosed publicly.
