The Nigerian police will not dismiss officers seen in a viral video picking money from the ground, the Force’s spokesperson ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi has said.

This clarification came after some Nigerians expressed fear that officers spotted picking money thrown in the air by singer Shallopopi at the Benin airport risk losing their jobs.
“We won’t dismiss a policeman for picking such money, we can only lecture him not to do so again, as such relegates him,” ACP Adejobi told reporters on Tuesday.
The incident occurred last week when Shallopopi sprayed naira notes into the air upon his arrival at the airport, ostensibly to show appreciation to fans and well-wishers.
Some officers providing security at the location were seen rushing to grab the money, sparking criticism from some Nigerians on social media.
But according to Adejobi, the officers will face warnings rather than outright dismissal, as the act lowers the integrity of the Force even if done innocently.
A video showing several officers scrambling for the scattered notes has been circulating online, drawing laughters and condemnation in equal measure.
While admonishing personnel to display more restraint, the Police spokesperson downplayed calls for punitive measures against those involved.
