The Governorship Tribunal convened in Birnin Kebbi has officially admitted all the original certificates of the Deputy Governor, Abubakar Umar.

The certificates were presented before the tribunal by the Permanent Secretary of Sokoto State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Schools Education.

These documents were submitted as evidence to verify the educational background of the deputy governor, substantiating his attendance at the institutions he had listed. Additionally, the documents aimed to confirm his participation in the mock examination of the Sultan Abubakar Teachers College.

The original certificates that were presented to the court include Umar Abubakar Argungu’s GCE O Level, National Diploma in Purchasing and Supply (from Kaduna Polytechnic), Higher National Diploma in Purchasing and Supply (from Kaduna Polytechnic), and an MSc in Transport from Ogun State University.

The Permanent Secretary of Sokoto State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Schools Education, represented by Director Exams, Mustapha Idris Musa, appeared before the Tribunal. He clarified that he was present on behalf of the permanent secretary, as per the tribunal’s subpoena.

After the submission of the documents, the second subpoenaed witness, Abdulrahaman Jafar Lawal, underwent cross-examination by various legal counsels, including those representing the respondents and the petitioners.

Musa noted that the court’s subpoena had directed them to produce documents, including the broadsheet used for the mock examination of their college in 1979. He further informed the court that an individual named Zayanu Muhd Umar, who presented himself as the principal of Sultan Abubakar College, was actually a vice principal. At the time Zayanu appeared and claimed his position, the legitimate principal, Mustapha Abubakar, was in office. Zayanu had allegedly gone to Birnin Kebbi without his superior’s knowledge or consent.

Following the acceptance of the tendered documents and the testimony of the subpoenaed witnesses, Justice Ofem O. Ofem, the Chairman of the tribunal, adjourned the hearing to the next day for continuation.
