Content creators and social media influencers in Nigeria are now receiving payments through the ad revenue-sharing model of ‘X,’ formerly known as Twitter.

This move is aimed at rewarding verified users who meet specific criteria and impressions thresholds for their posts and content.
The Verified badge, represented by a blue checkmark on ‘X,’ signifies the authenticity of an account of public interest. To attain this badge, an account must be genuine, notable, and active. It indicates that the account holds an active subscription to Twitter Blue and fulfills ‘X’s’ eligibility standards.
For eligibility, an account must have a display name and profile photo, maintain active use within the past 30 days, adhere to security protocols such as a confirmed phone number, and avoid deceptive or misleading behavior. Accounts should also abstain from platform manipulation, spam, or engaging in any harmful activities.
To apply for verification, users need to navigate through specific steps:
- Go to the “more” icon in the main menu.
- Select “Settings and Support.”
- Choose “Settings and Privacy.”
- Click on “Your account.”
- Select “Account information,” and provide your password.
- Under “Verified,” choose “Request Verification” and then “Start request.”
The blue checkmark will be granted after the ‘X’ team reviews a Twitter Blue subscribed account and confirms its alignment with the set requirements.
The ad revenue-sharing initiative enables eligible creators to share revenue generated from organic impressions of ads displayed in replies to their content on ‘X.’ This program aims to provide creators with a direct source of income on the platform.
To qualify for ads revenue sharing, creators must:
- Be subscribed to ‘X’ Premium or Verified Organizations.
- Accumulate at least 15 million organic impressions on cumulative posts within the past three months.
- Have a minimum of 500 followers.
Eligible users will need a Stripe account, as ‘X’ collaborates with Stripe as its payment processor for payouts. Upon being eligible, users can set up payments through the Monetization section of the app. Once initiated, users will receive regular payouts, provided they have generated over $50 USD.
This initiative underscores ‘X’s’ commitment to empowering content creators and influencers by offering them opportunities for monetization and financial sustainability directly on the platform.
