The Nigerian privacy and data protection industry has received a boost with the registration of a professional education outfit named ‘The Privacy Academy’ by the duo of Uche Val Obi, SAN and Olumide Babalola to provide excellent training on privacy and data protection in Nigeria.

The Academy is poised to offer multi-level hybrid certification training to persons interested in learning and upskilling in Nigeria’s privacy and data protection law and practice. The bespoke courses are designed to educate participants on varying areas of data protection and privacy in Nigeria.

The first associateship certification course holds in Lagos both onsite and online on the 5th and 6th days of July 2023 offering the following localised modules: concepts and terminologies; legal history of privacy and data protection; the legal regime; data subjects’ rights; principles of data protection; the lawful basis for processing personal data and enforcement mechanisms.

Upon partaking in the courses, participants will be presented with certificates of attendance and after successful assessment, they will be presented with certificates confirming them as Certified Associates of the Privacy Academy which entitles them to the suffix – CAPA. These latter certificates will be presented at an induction ceremony where the successful participants will be officially received as Associates of the Academy.
