The Kano government has re-arraigned Frank Geng-Quanrong, a Chinese national, before a high court in the state over the murder of Ummukulsum Buhari, who is alleged to be his lover.

According to the police, 22-year-old Buhari was stabbed multiple times by 47-year-old Quanrong in her residence at Janbulo quarters, Kumbotso LGA of Kano.

She was confirmed dead on arrival at the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital Kano.

The accused has been charged with culpable homicide.

At the court session on Thursday, Guo Cumru, staff of the Chinese embassy, was presented as an interpreter for the defendant.

Musa Abdullahi-Lawan, the prosecutor, who is also the attorney-general of Kano state, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on September 16.

He said the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 221(b) of the Penal Code.

Abdullahi-Lawan said the prosecution is ready to proceed with the case.

“We are ready and intend to present five witnesses, we don’t want to take much time as the interpreter is from Abuja,” he said.

When the charges were read, the defendant pleaded not guilty.

Subsequently, Sanusi Ado-Ma’aji, the presiding judge, ordered the remand of the defendant in a correctional centre.

He adjourned the matter until November 16, 17 and 18 for hearing.
