*Charges Litigation Lawyers To Adopt Strategies that Reinforce Environmental Justice.

An Abuja based Law Chambers, Anah Law Practice, has announced the Second Edition of C. O. Anah Memorial Colloquium.

The Managing Principal, Ms. Adaeze Anah, noted that this year’s Colloquium anchored on the theme, “Judicial Enforcement of Environmental Rights in Nigeria’s Slippery Jurisprudence” will be centred on the huge role lawyers in Nigeria have to play in climate action  and in the preservation of the planet.

The event is billed 27th of October 2022 at the Auditorium of the Nigerian Bar Association House, Central Business District Abuja by 10: 00am.

Speaking with TheNigerialawyer on the event, Adaeze,  said it is time for litigation lawyers to make impact in the area of enforcement of environmental rights.

She said litigation is competitive, personal, intense and demanding.

“Maybe these are the reasons why it is the most introverted aspect of legal practice. You can call it reclusive, Hermitian maybe.

“The confidentiality principle further reinforces the separateness of litigation. One can thus see how it  becomes easy to forget how motions we move, the rules of court we uphold or disrespect, the laws of evidence play by or negate affects not only our clients but systems. Governments, businesses, communities all depend on litigators to light up dark paths, to win wars with words and statutes finely woven in advocacy.

“This is what this Colloquium has come to remind us of. That we will be awake to the importance of our job. That we are really here to serve people, systems and society.

“If we remember how important this is, how sensitive this is then we can converge, discuss  and choose better methods.

“At the second edition of the C. O. Anah, SAN Memorial Colloquium the Nigerian Environmental Justice System will be discussed and analysed from a litigator’s point of view.

“All this talk about Climate Action and as usual Litigators may have forgotten that we are an important machinery for the preservation of the environment.

“There is going to be no #netzeroemisson without court orders and judgements upholding  environmental rights.

“That plastic pollution can be halted with a barage of class actions and that the truest way to force a mighty Multinational company into taking responsibility for their  oil spill is through litigation.”

Speaking further she added that the Colloquium is the platform “where will we discuss the challenges we encounter in environmental rights enforcement and decide for ourselves what the way forward is.

“There is a place for social engineering and honestly Nigerian lawyers are in the eye of the storm.

“These and more are some of the conversations as this process will be driven be seasoned experts who will guide us through this very needed legal introspection.

“Make it a date. Mark your diaries .  Let’s discuss this shared prosperity of ours,” Ada added.
