In mediation sessions, parties are bound to come to the mediator with their personality traits which may be positive or negative. Psychology is the study of how people think, feel, and behave and the factors that influence their decisions.

People have different personalities and so often understand and process information differently. Their perceptions, beliefs and feelings could therefore affect their understanding of issues.

For the Mediator to assist parties to reach an amicable solution, awareness of emotion is necessary and sensitivity to the personality traits of the disputing parties is equally important. The Mediator must develop skills on how to manage people with difficult personalities.

This course will first teach participants how to manage their own emotions and how to manage the psychology and emotions of parties, to guide parties to arrive at resolution without basing such decisions on emotions but on information and rational thinking.
