The immediate past General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. Jonathan Gunu Taidi, has congratulated a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Aare Isiaka Olagunju Abiola and others on their emergence as the pioneer elected leaders of the Governing Council of a Pan-Yoruba lawyers association, Egbe Amofin Oodua.
The Chairman Oyo state Independent Electoral Commission (OYSEIC) and former General Secretary of the NBA , Aare Isiaka Abiola Olagunju (SAN) was elected Chairman of the Forum during the election which was held at the Chief Magistrate Court Ibadan. It was conducted via a hybrid process of both electronic and manual voting enabling the members of the association both in Nigeria and diaspora to vote.
Other members of the newly elected executives are Oluwatoyin Bashorun (SAN) Vice Chairman, (Lagos Branch) Adetunji Osho Secretary (Ekiti Branch) Ademola Ikujuni Assistant Secretary (Akure Branch) Mr. Rotimi Oyadola Financial Secretary (Ilorin Branch) Rotimi Olorunfemi Treasurer (Ondo Branch) Olayinka Sokoya Publicity Secretary (Ogun Branch) Paul Akomolafe Welfare Secretary (Ekiti Branch) and Moshood Abiola Auditor (Ikeja Branch)
In a statement made available to TheNigeriaLawyer titled “CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE TO PIONEER ELECTED GOVERNING COUNCIL MEMBERS OF EGBE AMOFIN O’ODUA”, Taidi described the emergence of the new leaders as historic
“With great pride, I write to congratulate Aare Isiaka Olagunju Abiola, SAN and Members of the Governning Council of Egbe Amofin O’Odua who have made history as pioneer elected officers to steer the affairs of esteemed members of Egbe Amofin Odua within and in diaspora.
“This historic feat is coming at a period when our nation is facing multiple challenges ranging from insecurity to economic emasculation of the teeming populace. We therefore need every resources at our disposal, every group of well meaning Nigerians, to bring their diverse acumen to bear on the issues.” Taidi, said.
He therefore called on the new leaders to look beyond the Forum while making policies.
He said, “I therefore urge you to avoid any sort of tunnel vision and look beyond the immediate issues confronting your members and extend your wealth of experience in contributing to the national discourse on how to reposition our estranged nation towards political rebirth, peaceful coexistence and economic prosperity.
“Accept my best wishes in this endeavor.”
