Governor Nyesom Wike and a House of Representatives member and governorship aspirant, Farah Dagogo, have disagreed over an attack on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

The governor declared the lawyer wanted for allegedly hiring cultists to carry out the attack.
Wike, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Kelvin Ebiri, directed the Rivers State Police Command to arrest Dagogo.
He accused the federal lawmaker of hiring cultists, who stormed the secretariat and disrupted the screening of political aspirants.
“The Police must as a matter of urgency arrest Farah Dagogo wherever he is and must be made to face prosecution.
“Already, some of the hoodlums hired by Farah Dagogo have been arrested and will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” the governor stated.
But Dagogo, in a statement by his media aide Ibrahim Lawal, said he was not a cultist and did not send anyone to disrupt the screening exercise.
The statement reads: “Dagogo was never at the party secretariat where the screening process took place. He is a governorship aspirant and not a national or state Assembly aspirant.
“The governor has decided to credit Dagogo as a sponsor of cultists to stop the screening of Farah Dagogo for the governorship position of Rivers State.
“The directive for the arrest of Dagogo violates the spirits of Section 14 and 33 of the 1999 Constitution.
“The Inspector-General of Police should direct the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State not to heed the directives of the governor in this circumstance.
“If the Commissioner of Police considers it incumbent to invite Doctor Farah Dagogo, he is willing to make himself available on the receipt of an official invite from the police after the screening, not before.
“Dr Farah Dagogo is a respectable and law-abiding Federal lawmaker representing the people of Degema/Bonny Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
“The National Chairman of the PDP is invited to urgently investigate the matter.
“Civil society organisations are urged to protect democracy in Nigeria.”
