The clamour for gender equality has been on for years with many women and civic groups advocating change, parity, an end to negative stereotypes and gender-based violence.

The Gender and Equal Opportunity Bill captures the objectives of that advocacy and of the International Women’s Day being marked across the world on Monday.

The bill was first introduced in the eighth Senate in March 2016 by former minority leader, Biodun Olujimi (PDP, Ekiti South) but was rejected by some male lawmakers who argued that the Nigerian Constitution was clear on rights of citizens, including women.

Sequel to this the Immediate Past NBA National Asst. Secretary, Ewenode.O William, has thrown his weight to support the women in their quest to stop all form of gender bias

Ewenode, who has always stood with the women, reaffirmed it while extending his goodwill message to the NBA Women’s forum as it holds its 2nd Annual Conference, in Lagos.

He said, “I wish to once again, wholly express my profound support to all Our female Colleagues in their noble quest against all forms of Gender Bias.

“It is on record that I have continually supported our Women folks in the fight against all forms of bias they are faced with.

“It is therefore my further support to stand with the NBA Women Forum as they converge in Lagos for their 2nd Annual Conference holding from 31st March to 1st April, 2022.

“The Conference has been themed “The Invisible Hand of Gender Bias: Championing Collective Change”

“This Conference which parades an array of fantastic Speakers will host thirty five Speakers in six Plenary Sessions amongst others.

“From the program, it will be an exciting time filled with expositions for all attendees.

“I commend our Women Forum for taking this giant stride.”
