The first Senior Advocate of Nigeria from both Borno State and the entire Northeastern region of the Country as well as the sardauna of Uba (a local government in Borno State) Joe-Kyari Gadzama OFR, MFR, C.Arb. was welcomed to his home in GRA, Maiduguri by members of the young lawyers forum of the Maiduguri branch (Maiduguri YLF) and some notable bar leaders.

The team of young lawyers was led by Mr Umar A. Chiroma, Chairman of the Maiduguri YLF. He was accompanied by Mr Mark Ibrahim, Vice Chairman of the Maiduguri YLF, Ummi Ibrahim Kolo, Treasurer of the Maiduguri YLF and other members of the forum.

The evening event which took place in his lovely home in Maiduguri began with short speeches by his colleagues about the man called J-K. They recounted how he had assisted them in the past by providing accomodation and making his office available to some of them who visited Abuja. They also remembered how he had assisted his colleagues by registering them in the Oputa Training and Mentoring Programme organised by his law firm.

Particularly, Mr Umar A. Chiroma, the Chairman of the Maiduguri YLF explained that he had heard of Gadzama SAN and was delighted to meet him. He mentioned that he would be with him whenever required. After he concluded his remarks, Ummi Ibrahim Kolo, the treasurer of the Maiduguri YLF thanked the Learned Silk for the condolence visit he paid on her family after the demise of Hon. Justice Kaumi M. Kolo (former CJ Of Borno State High Court). Similarly, M. K. Ajah, Esq., an Ex Officio of YLF, narrated that the Learned Silk was his inspiration to study law. He described the Learned Silk as the Lord Denning of our time and stated that the he is happy for the privilege to associate with the Learned Silk.

Mr Monguno, the former Attorney General and Commissioner for justice of the State & former Chair of the Maiduguri branch mentioned that Gadzama SAN’s track record of achievements is remarkable and worthy of emulation.

After the conclusion of the short speeches, Gadzama SAN responded by thanking his colleagues for their support throughout the years and urged them to stay united going forward. In the same vein, he encouraged all to be hardworking and grateful. In the words of the Learned Silk, ‘we should never take credit for anything we have as all that we have is a gift from God’

We gather that the members of the branch were ecstatic to welcome a worthy son of the soil home; furthermore, as is customary, food and drinks were provided in surplus to make the event worthwhile.

Also present at the event were Mr A. A Sani, former Chairman of the branch, Mr A.A Modu, Mr Hassan Basharu, Mr Zannah A Ashemi, Abdulrahman A. Wakta and B. G. Zannah, amongst others.
