*Charges them to operate within ambit of law

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, on Monday, swore in Justice Hussein Baba Yusuf as acting Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Judiciary, along with five newly appointed Kadis of FCT Sharia Court of Appeal.

The CJN charged the newly appointed judicial officers to be impartial, fair to all and apply justice and equity in all their undertakings.

He specifically charged Justice Baba Yusuf to conduct the affairs of the FCT judiciary within the ambit of the law, adding that, “Anything to the contrary will not place you on the right side of history.

“You must not allow the weight of your responsibilities to weigh you down. Your opulent experiences that have spanned several years should easily be deployed to counter any untoward situation in the course of your stewardship,“ he said.

Justice Muhammad also charged the acting Chief Judge and the new Kadis of the Sharia Court of Appeal to rise and operate above primordial sentiment in the discharge of their duties.

He told Justice Baba-Yusuf that, as acting Chief Judge of FCT Judiciary, he will definitely be tempted and even intimidated in different ways and guises and advised that he should remain firm and unshaken as good conscience fears no threat.

The five newly appointed Kadis are, Salish Garba, Baahiru Dan Maisule, Mohammed Salisu Abubakar, Lawal Sule Abdullahi and Abdullahi Adam Abdullahi Al-Ilory.

Justice Baba Yusuf then proceeded to the University of Lagos in 1980 where he obtained LLB in 1983 and moved to the Law School and was called to the Bar 1984.

After his NYSC programme in 1985, he joined the services of the Judiciary in 1985 as Magistrate Grade II and rose through the rank, becoming the Chief Registrar, High Court of Justice Kogi State in 1993.

He later joined the services of the FCT Judiciary on the transfer of service the same year and was appointed High Court Judge in 1998 from which position he has just been appointed Acting Chief Judge.
