The Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ondo Branch, Thompson Akinyemi, has narrated how he was slapped and his armed twisted by men of the Nigerian Police Force at a Police Division in the state.

In a statement made available to TheNigeriaLawyer, Akinyemi said it happened when he went to secure bail of his client.
“Learned Chairmen; let me report to the Bar officially that I was assaulted by the DCO Funbi Fagun police division in Ondo this evening.
“I was at the station to secure bail for my clients and had been there for almost 2hours negotiating the bail conditions when the IPO told me that she has to see the DPO before bail is granted.
“Having waited for long and discovered that there was a sinister motive I approached a man coming to sit under the tree in the station, greeted him and ask whether he is the DPO of the station because I don’t know him, the supposed DPO now asked why I am asking him that question, he had not finished when the man(the DCO) already sitting under the tree abused me in a most insulting manner that I don’t know how to talk to people, that I am manner less that he will deal with me if I don’t get out of the station immediately;”
Akinyemi said the DCO threatened also that “he is going to lock me up.”
He added, “I then asked him the offence I committed. The DCO immediately stood up and called a police officer with a gun to send me out of the station”
Further, “the police officer hesitating, the DCO himself slapped me, twisted my arm shoved me out of the station. I then left the station and drove back to my office.”
