The University of Benin bursar Victor Imagbe on Thursday escaped abduction but his guard was killed by the gunmen.

Imagbe’s house at Ogheghe at Sapele Road in Benin was invaded at 2:45am on Thursday by kidnappers but he managed to escape.

His guard Ugiagbe Alex Osaghae, of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), was shot dead by the gunmen, his rifle stolen.

The kidnappers opened fire on Osaghae as they entered the bursar’s compound, killing him.

NSCDC spokesman Ogbebor Efosa confirmed the killing of Osaghae, adding that the criminals were being trailed.
