*Passed 8 Bills Through Third Reading

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, on Thursday, announced the constitution of a Standing Committee on Safety Regulation and Standard.

Hon Gbajabiamila disclosed this during the plenary, explained that decision was in response to concerns raised about safety in public places.

He explained that the standing committee will be known as the safety regulation and standard of the House in response to the issue of public safety in public institutions in schools, in hospitals, in government buildings all across the country.”

According to him, the Standing Committee on Safety Regulation and Standard will be chaired by Hon Ibrahim Hamza.

Some members of the Committee are; Hon Bukola Oyewo, Hon Omolafe Adedayo, Hon Benjamin Kalu, Hon Ben Igbakwa, Hon Sam Dede, Hon Sam Onuigbo, Hon Ismaila Tijani, Hon Bala Kokani, Hon Henry Archibong, Hon Haruna Dodo, Hon Ibrahim Usman, Hon Ibrahim Babangida, Hon.Shawulu Rewande, Hon Sam Adejare, Hon Osunsanya, Hon Olatunbosun Olajide, Hon Balogun Adebayo, among others.

The House also passed through Third Reading 8 bills, namely: A Bill for an Act to provide for the establishment of Federal University of Education, Kontagora; A Bill for an Act to establish Fisheries Institute of Nigeria charged with Responsibility for Registration and Disciplining of Members of the Profession; A Bill for an Act to establish the Federal University of Agriculture, Kabba and A Bill for an Act to amend the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency Act, 2006.

Others include; A Bill for an Act to establish the Nigerian Council for Psychologists charged with Responsibility for determining the standards of knowledge and skills to be attained by persons seeking to become registered members of the psychology profession in Nigeria; A Bill for an Act to amend the Orthopedic Hospitals Management Board Act, 2004 to provide for the establishment of Orthopedic Hospital, Jos, Plateau State; A Bill for an Act to provide for the establishment of Federal Medical Centre, Wase, Plateau State; and A Bill for an Act to establish Federal University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Bida, Niger State for the purpose of Providing Qualitative Education in Medicine and Health Sciences.

After the debate on various motions and bills, the House resolved to adjourn plenary to Tuesday, April 13, 2021, to proceed on Easter recess.
