An Abuja Mobile court Wednesday unsealed the popular Wuse Market, the UTC and Murg Shopping Plazas.

The market and plazas were sealed last Monday for violating the Presidential regulations on COVID-19.

The court presided by Magistrate Idayat Akanni unsealed the market and plazas.

Following the development, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello on Wednesday vowed that he will not hesitate to resealed markets and plazas that are being reopened in the nation’s capital if they are caught flaunting the COVID-19 Disease Health Protection Regulation 2021 as accented to by President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said this while briefing newsmen after the Mobile Court sitting to reopen the sealed markets and plazas.

The Head, Media and Enlightenment of the FCT Ministerial Committee on Enforcement of COVID-19 Guidelines, Comrade Ikharo Attah, who spoke on behalf of the minister, said they will not condone any act that will lead to further spread of the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic in the territory.

Similarly, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma who is also the Chairman of the FCT Ministerial Committee on Enforcement of COVID-19 Guidelines buttressed what the Minister said on resealing of markets and plazas that flaunts COVID-19 Disease Health Protection Regulation 2021.

Attah warned that the reopened facilities having fulfilled all the requirements should comply and sustain the health protocols put in place.

His words; “Today Magistrate Idayat Akani sat and having observed what was reported back by the prosecuting counsel that inspected the market and the undertaken written by the managers of this markets that they will henceforth comply with the Presidential Task Force (PTF) guidelines on COVID-19 health protocols.

“The Judge in her wisdom unsealed the markets and the plaza and fined them fifty thousand naira each which they hurriedly paid and after the briefing, we will be going down to unseal the markets and the plaza.

“I believe this will serve as a detriment to other markets, both buyers and sellers must ensure they observe all necessary health protocols to stem the spread of the pandemic.

“For what we saw during our inspection of the markets, we noticed that they were largely prepared for the compliance. But what we tell them, going forward, is the need to sustained the compliance level and the presidential order that the president accented to.”

Our correspondent who visited the markets and plazas observed that the market managers have put in place soap, water, sanitizers in strategic places within the facilities.

Traders who spoke to The Nation applauded the FCT Administration for reopening the Wuse market and plazas, lamenting that they have lost millions of Naira during the closure.

They, however, promised to adhere to the presidential order on COVID-19 no matter the situation.

They appealed to buyers to always come to the market with their face masks and obey lay down protocols.
