A middle-aged trader, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Adetona, yesterday petitioned the Osun State Panel of Inquiry Investigating Police Brutality and Extra-judicial Killing.

She narrated how a drunk policeman, identified as Agada, killed her two children with Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) in 2015.

Mrs. Adetona told the panel that she was in the bathroom in her home, D112, Egbe Idi, Ilesa, Osun State, preparing to go to church when she heard that police APC had killed her two children.

She said when she got to the scene, she saw that the police officer, Agada, who drove the APC, was drunk, as beer bottles were seen with him.

She said following the incident, she lost her memory and spent one month and three days at the Wesley Hospital, Ilesa before she regained her memory.

Counsel to the police Mr. F. B. Osei hinted the panel that the case had been resolved because the officer who committed the crime was dismissed from the Police Force and the case file was forwarded to the Ministry of Justice for prosecution.

The distraught mother wept, saying she was aware that the police officer was dismissed, but he was not prosecuted.

The petitioner’s lawyer, Mr. Abdulfatai Abdulsalam, said the Ministry of Justice had not taken any action on his prosecution.

The Chairman of the panel, Akin Oladimeji, directed that the Secretary, who is the Director of Public Prosecutions, Ministry of Justice, Mr. Kemi Bello, should investigate the matter.

He adjourned the case till February 19.

A farmer identified as Amos Adeyemi, has alleged that a policeman shot him at a checkpoint in Okuku, while he was travelling from Osogbo in Osun State to Offa in Kwara State.

He alleged that the policeman is Olalere George with Force No. 367218PC.

Adeyemi said the bullet damaged his lower lip.

He demanded N20million compensation and said the Federal Government should take him abroad for further treatment.
