THE Attorney General of Anambra State, Dr.(Mrs) Uju Nwogu has granted authority to the former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association Anaocha branch, Chief J.N Okongwu, Esq., to prosecute HRN Barr. Arinze Lawrence, Reuben Akalaka,  Ikegulu Michael, Onuoha Ferdinand and Ikechukwu Iwuoha, at the Magistrate Court,  for allegedly committing assault and stealing. 

This is contained in a letter of authorization dated 9th day of May, 2019 which was made available to TheNigeriaLawyer (TNL).

“It is hereby specifically provided that this authority include powers to prosecute to amend/or add to the said Charge if necessary. It is further specifically provided that the prosecution must not withdraw the charge except by the Hon. Attorney’s written approval.”

Meanwhile, by an amended charge in charge no: MID/166C/2019, the Accused Persons have been charged on a three-count charge, signed by Chief J.N Okongwu, Prosecuting Counsel, which was made available to TheNigeriaLawyer(TNL).

Count one reads:

“That you HRH Barr. Arinze Lawrence “M” Chief Sir Reuben Akalaka “M” Dr Ikegulu Michael “M” Mr. Onuoha Ferdinand “M” and Chief Sir Ikechukwu Iwuoha on 29/3/2019 at Peoples Club headquarters Awada within Idemili North Magistrate District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit stealing and assault and you thereby committed an offence punishable under section 495(a) of the criminal code Cap 36 Vol. 11 revised laws of Anambra State of Nigeria 1991 as amended.”

Count two:

“That you HRH Barr. Arinze Lawrence “M” Chief Sir Reuben Akalaka “M” Dr Ikegulu Michael “M” Mr. Onuoha Ferdinand “M” and Chief Sir Ikechukwu Iwuoha on the same date and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District did unlawfully assaulted (sic) Chief Sir John Chuks Onwuazor by pouncing on him, pushed him, beat him up mercilessly and you thereby committed an offence punishable under section 252 of the criminal code
Cap 36 Vol. 11 revised laws of Anambra State of Nigeria 1991 as amended.”

Count three:

“That you HRH Barr. Arinze Lawrence “M” Chief Sir Reuben Akalaka “M” Dr Ikegulu Michael “M” Mr. Onuoha Ferdinand “M” and Chief Sir Ikechukwu Iwuoha on the same date and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District did steal two phones all value N100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) only property of Chief Sir John Chuks Onwuazor and you thereby committed an offence punishable under section 353(12) of the criminal code Cap 36 Vol. 11 revised laws of Anambra State of Nigeria 1991 as amended.”

The case is currently pending at the chief magistrate court Ezi owelle in idemili local government area.
