In Nigeria, under the Quarantine Act of 1926, the President of Nigeria is empowered to:
(1) Declare a disease one of infectious or contagious nature.
(2) Powers to declare a place within or outside Nigeria, an infected area.
(3) Powers to make regulations preventing the spread of any dangerous infectious disease.
(4) The President or Governor of a State may provide Sanitary Stations, buildings or other equipement for preventing the introduction or spread of a new disease in Nigeria.
-where the President fails to declare a disease an infectious one, or fails to declare a place in Nigeria an infected area, the Governor of a State may make such declaration with respect to his State (S.8)
-Provisions of the Quarantine Act may be enforced before the Magistrates Court.(S.7)
PENALTY FOR CONTRAVENTION OF REGULATIONS UNDER THE ACT
-N200 or
-Six (6) months imprisonment or both.
