The Chairman, Elder Aniema Etuk, and the Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association, Uyo Branch, have directed the immediate suspension of all branch activities that would attract large number of lawyers till further notice.

This is in line with the professional advice of government on measures to prevent the spread, and the need to guarantee the safety of all persons in relation to the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the country.

In a statement credited to the Publicity Secretary, Samuel A. Etuk, Esq., made available to TheNigerialawyer (TNL), he said:  “To this extent, the Special Court Session in honour of our Late Colleague, Nsini Udoeyop, Esq., and the Public Assessment Forum on the Administration of Criminal Justice Law in Akwa Ibom State, put together by the MacArthur Foundation, in partnership with NBA, Uyo which were scheduled for Thursday, the 26th day of March, 2020 are hereby suspended.

Also affected by this directive are the monthly meeting of the branch and the launch of the branch Welfare Scheme billed for Friday, the 27th day of March, 2020.

The Chairman and members of the Executive Committee of the branch regret all inconveniences, this very difficult action may cost learned colleagues, stakeholders in the criminal justice administration in the state and other guests.

While waiting for further directives, learned colleagues are urged to continue to observe social distancing, avoid shaking hands, embracing, and keep at least six feet distance from anyone who is sneezing or coughing.

Stringent Personal and Respiratory Hygiene including; regular washing of hands with soap under running water, the use of hand sanitizers, coughing or sneezing into a disposable tissue paper or the cuff of the elbow where no tissue is available and proper disposal of the used tissue must also be observed at all times by members.
