The International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA, Niger State Chapter has raised the alarm over the rate at which young mothers are dumping their babies to unknown destinations, describing this as a wicked act to humanity.

The FIDA Niger chairperson, Christy Barau, made this known in an interview with Northern City News on Sunday after their visit to orphanage home in Minna to see the baby that was dumped by her mother at the side of the road.

According to her, it is an abominable act that somebody who called herself a mother can do that to her own child and is quite unfortunate.

She said, “When we got the information that a young lady wrapped her two-day-old baby with cloth and dumped her at the road opposite Central Mosque, Minna, we swung into action and found out that little baby with the orphanage home in Minna. Hence, we visited her and other orphans.

“We bought some food items and toiletries for the baby and others in the home just to extend our hands of kindness to them, especially the baby. We will be checking on her from time to time to see how we can help her in future. We are determined to assist her at all levels, we are mothers, we cannot allow her to suffer despite the fact that her abandoned her to her fate.”

She, however, admonished mothers and young women to desist from the act before the long arm of law will get at them, adding that the people should report such cases to security agents to bring perpetrators to book.

It should be recalled that a good Samaritan woman, Fatima Adamu, had also on January 28, 2020, rescued the two-day-old baby girl dumped by an unidentified mother along Kuta Road, opposite Central Mosque in Minna, Niger State.
