The Nigerian Bar Association Association has condemned the alleged attack on residents of the peaceful community of Uvwheru in Delta State by gunmen alleged to be Fulani herdsmen where more than 8 persons were reportedly killed and their bodies secretly buried.
It also condemned the other killings which occurred in Tsauya and Dankar villages in the Batsari Local Council of Katsina State, where 30 persons were reported killed by gunmen.
In a statement made available to TheNigeriaLawyer (TNL) signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kunle Edun, NBA says the security situation calls for concern.
“The increasing spate of attacks, murders, abduction, and general insecurity calls for concern and urgent intervention by the Federal Government, being the only authority that controls the armed forces. The NBA calls on the federal government to stop paying lip service to the increasing insecurity in Nigeria and take more proactive actions to put a stop to it.”
Kunle Edun added that “Nigerians deserve to live and freely move anywhere within the country in peace and without fear of being attacked. It is the fundamental responsibility of government to provide protection for all Nigerians and their properties. This is why governments exist.
“The NBA urges the Federal government to do all that is necessary to quickly de-escalate the rising insecurity in Nigeria; the consequences of a failed security in Nigeria would be calamitous, and must be avoided.”
