The Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC) paid a working visit to the Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) on Thursday, 12 December 2019, during the Institute’s Fellowship Course which held 11-14 December 2019 in Dubai.

The delegation from ICMC was warmly received by Dr. Ahmad Bin Alshaikh, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Dubai International Arbitration Centre, and his team. Dr. Alshaikh welcomed the Institute to Dubai and thanked them for honouring the Centre with a working visit.

The Dubai International Arbitration Centre, which is the largest Arbitration Centre in the Middle East, was established in 2007 and has since then registered over 2,500 cases.

The President of ICMC, Chief Emeka J.P. Obegolu, represented by Dr. Agada Elachi, member of the ICMC Governing Council, expressed his pleasure at the warm reception given to the Institute and the informative presentation.

He explained that the Institute is the professional body of practitioners with the mandate to regulate the practice of Mediation, train prospective candidates and encourage organizations and institutions to adopt Mediation and Conciliation as the primary means for addressing disputes.

He stated further that the Institute has would be happy to partner with the Centre in the future in organizing international trainings, workshops, and conferences.

Dr. Alshaikh said the Dubai International Arbitration Centre would be willing to partner with the Institute in terms of logistical support, organizing collaborative workshops between the DIAC Under 40- Young Practitioners Group and the ICMC Young Mediators Forum, and attend the ADR Conferences of ICMC when circumstances permit.

As a result of his unique qualifications and experience, Dr. Ahmad Bin Alshaikh was conferred honorary membership of the Institute. The Centre encouraged ICMC Mediators and Conciliators to apply as Neutrals of the DIAC, after satisfying all criteria, and apply as members of the DIAC Under 40- Young Practitioners Group, as the Centre is always delighted to have more professional Arbitrators, Adjudicators, and Conciliators on board.

The next Admission to Fellow Cadre Course of ICMC in Dubai is scheduled to hold in July 2020.
