The Founder and Chairman of Rescue Magazine, Chief Areoye Oyebola, has berated professional bodies for being indifferent to “the daily exploitation and oppression of millions of poverty-stricken Nigerians”.

He said part of the reason for Nigeria’s worsening situation was that the leaders of bodies such as the Nigerian Bar Association; the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria; and the Nigeria Medical Association had chosen to keep quiet in the face of “glaring incompetence and monumental corruption at all cadres of government in Nigeria”.

Oyebola, however, commended the Academic Staff Union of Universities for criticising the Senate’s plans to purchase N5.5bn exotic cars for lawmakers.

He also commended the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress for pointing out that the failure of the government over the years was responsible for unemployment in the country, leading to brain drain.

Oyebola said these in a statement on Monday.

He said political leaders should be blamed for the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa and the maltreatment of Nigerians in other African countries.

He said, “What a shame and a disgrace to Nigeria, the most populous black nation. All organisations and enlightened citizens must say enough is enough to the excessively greedy, selfish and corrupt leaders.”
