Proceedings at the National Assembly Petitions Tribunal sitting in Umuahia, Abia State, in the petition filed against the victory of Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Chief Orji Kalu, was stalled on Monday due to the missing of vital documents relating to the case.

The tribunal Chairman, Justice Cornelius Akintayo, had adjourned the case till July 23 when the panel discovered that the petitioner, Chief Moa Ohuabunwa, was unable to access the Certified True Copies of documents tendered to the tribunal.

Speaking shortly after the tribunal rose, Ohuabunwa’s lead counsel, Mr Mike Onyeka, said his team was not deterred by the missing documents since the tribunal had given them the room to search for them, adding that even if the documents were not found, his team would be given another opportunity to resubmit the documents and continue with the matter.

“What happened is a natural situation that can happen; that’s why we took a break to meet with the judges and we came to the conclusion that we should be allowed to search for the original documents we submitted since the photocopies we had already had notes written on them”, he said.

The counsel for Kalu, Mr Perfect Okorie, said his team was waiting for the counsel for the petitioner to find the documents.
