A Federal High Court in Owerri, Imo State, has fixed 28th June 2019, for hearing of the suit filed by the Local Government Chairman of Action Alliance (AA) in Ohaji Egbema L.G.A., Hon. Peter Chinedum Igwe against the State Chairman of the party, Hon. Uchendu Anthony-Ahaneku.

In an application for an order signed by the applicant’s counsel, Ikedi Agunkwu Esq., a human rights activist; the Ohaji/Egbema AA Chairman is asking the court to declare his alleged arrest, detention, and torture inside the state secretariat of the party in Owerri by police, as a violation of his fundamental human rights.

He is also seeking an award of the sum of N50 million as compensation and an order restraining police or its agents from further infringing on his fundamental human rights.

Hon. Igwe claimed that he was on 24th March, 2019, arrested from a party meeting venue in Owerri, detained and tortured by policemen on the alleged orders of the state chairman, Hon. Anthony-Ahaneku.

Igwe, through his counsel had on 29th March, 2019, written Anthony-Ahaneku demanding an apology and the sum of N50 million as compensation within 21 days to avert a legal action.
