For allegedly beating up officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, 13 workers of the Seven-Up Bottling Company Limited have been arraigned by the Lagos State Task Force on Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit.

The workers were arraigned for assault and conduct likely to cause breach of the peace before the Lagos State Mobile Court.

A statement on Thursday identified the suspects as Musa Lawal, Sanni Abdullahi, Okechukwu Amaeze, Dayo Sanusi, James Water, Okunola Femi and Awotoye Afolarin.

Others are Ibrahim Umaru, Usbie Stephen, Kelvin Arueyingho, Emmanuel Uche, Salisu Haruna and Jimoh Darihutor.

According to the statement by the task force, the workers attacked the traffic officials when they attempted to tow a company’s truck which broke down in the toll gate area of the state.

Two of the victims, Anozie Peter and Demeji Tonade, were said to be towing truck drivers.

The third victim, Kazim Abayomi, was reportedly transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, for further treatment.

The task force Chairman, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, said the truck, which was parked by the roadside, caused traffic obstruction.

He said, “The prosecution of these 13 arrested workers became imperative to serve as a deterrent to others who may want to attack law enforcement officers in the course of enforcing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s executive order on traffic offenders across the state.

“It is disheartening that officers employed to safeguard members of the public are always being attacked by the same people whose interest they are protecting.”
