Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad on Wednesday reassured players in the telecommunication industry of the commitment of the Nigerian judiciary to the development of the sector by ensuring fairness and transparency in adjudication.

The Acting CJN, gave the assurance while delivering a keynote address at the Nigerian Communications Commission 2019 Annual Workshop for Judges on Legal Issues in Telecommunications held at Best Western Hotel, Enugu State.
Represented by the Justice Mary Odili of the Supreme Court, Justice Muhammadu commended NCC for it’s regulatory efforts in balancing the interests of consumers, service providers and other stakeholders in the industry.
The unprecedented surge in technological innovations has brought about a new behavioural pattern, which according to him had lead to continuous reliance on computers and computer-based applications.
“This has inadvertently birthed grave concerns like electronic banking fraud and other issues arising from e-transactions.
“Hopefully, the outcome of the discussions at this forum will enable the Commission to meet up with its commitment to an improved environment for telecommunication services,” he said.
The acting CJN appreciated the sustenance of NCC collaboration with the bench, adding that it has been instrumental in bringing to bear topical and emerging areas in the telecommunications sector.
He pledged that the judiciary would continue to ensure speedy dispensation of justice in line with the rule of law.
Earlier in a welcome address, Executive Vice Chairman NCC, Professor Umar Garba Danbatta, said that dependence on telecommunications as the platform for driving digital and financial inclusion has resulted in the collection of a large amount of personal data of Nigerians.
“It is for this reason that the workshop seeks to explore issues of privacy, national security, admissibility of digital evidence and cross border transfer of data,” Danbatta explained.
Danbatta who was represented by the Executive Commissioner, Stakeholders Management of the NCC, Sunday Dare said that the workshop will also delve into bank fraud perpetrated via telecommunication infrastructure platform.
